I live in the mountains of Wyoming, within wandering distance of the Tetons and Yellowstone National Park. I’m proud of this corner of the world, so posts about the landscape, wildlife, weather, and occasional roadside oddity tend to find their way onto the site.
Whenever possible, I’m in one of the parks. The rest of the time, I may be camping on a mountaintop, hiking a trail, exploring somewhere unfamiliar, or finding some new way to come home dusty. There is always another road, canyon, or patch of forest waiting around the bend. I wouldn’t live anywhere else.
Travel usually means doing something rather than sitting still. Rafting, fishing, skiing, and other outdoor adventures often work their way into my holidays, although I will never object to a tropical beach. Museums are another weakness. Put one near me and I will probably disappear into it for several hours.
Writing fiction and nonfiction occupies much of my time. I also read about paleontology and archaeology, and I have even joined a few dinosaur digs.
My degree is in psychology from the University of Minnesota, although I never pursued it as a career. When people hear that, they usually ask, “I bet that psychology degree has helped you deal with people, hasn’t it?”
Not. One. Bit.
Trains have fascinated me since I was a little munchkin and my grandfather took me to see the ones he worked on. I still love watching them snake through a canyon or thunder across an open prairie, but riding them is even better. Long-distance train travel has a rhythm all its own: the soft sway of the carriage, the landscape sliding past the window, and nowhere else you are required to be.
It may be one of life’s most perfect pleasures.

That is a little about me. The rest is scattered through the posts on this site. I like making people smile, so things occasionally become a little silly around here, but it is all in good fun.
